Job Title: Offshore Electro-Technical Officer (ETO)
Location: Onboard Cable Lay Vessel (Offshore)
Reports To: Chief Engineer / Electrical Superintendent

Role Overview
The Offshore ETO is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of all electrical and electronic systems onboard a cable lay vessel. This includes power generation and distribution, propulsion systems, dynamic positioning (DP), cable handling equipment, and communication/navigation systems. The ETO ensures compliance with safety standards and supports uninterrupted vessel operations during cable laying and burial activities.

Key Responsibilities


Electrical Systems Management

Operate and maintain main and emergency power generation systems.
Monitor and troubleshoot electrical distribution systems, switchboards, and transformers.
Maintain propulsion control systems and thruster electrical components.



Electronic & Automation Systems

Maintain and repair DP systems, PLCs, and automation controls.
Ensure proper functioning of navigation and communication equipment.
Support cable handling machinery (winches, tensioners, linear cable engines) and burial tools.



Preventive & Corrective Maintenance

Execute planned maintenance schedules for electrical/electronic equipment.
Diagnose and repair faults promptly to minimize downtime.
Maintain accurate maintenance logs and reports.



Safety & Compliance

Adhere to IMO, SOLAS, and class regulations for electrical safety.
Participate in safety drills and ensure compliance with company HSE policies.
Manage hazardous area equipment and ensure ATEX compliance.



Operational Support

Assist in mobilization/demobilization of cable lay equipment.
Provide technical support during cable laying and burial operations.
Liaise with engineering team and offshore manager for operational readiness.




Qualifications & Experience

STCW-compliant ETO Certificate or equivalent.
Minimum 2–3 years offshore experience, preferably on cable lay or DP vessels.
Strong knowledge of:

High-voltage systems (up to 6.6kV).
DP systems and automation.
Cable handling equipment.


Familiarity with marine safety standards and class requirements.
Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
