Job Overview: The 2nd Officer aboard from this tugboat is responsible for assisting with the safe navigation and operation of the vessel in accordance with international regulations and company policies. The role involves overseeing deck crew, managing navigational watch, and ensuring safety procedures are strictly followed. The 2nd Officer will also assist in general ship management duties, supporting both the Master and Chief Officer in maintaining the ship’s seaworthiness and operational efficiency. Key Responsibilities: • Navigation: o Maintain the navigational watch (bridge watchkeeping) as per the vessel's schedule. o Assist in passage planning, course plotting, and maintaining accurate records in the ship’s log. o Ensure all navigation equipment is operational and carry out regular checks. o Report any navigational hazards or deviations from the planned route to the Master immediately. • Safety and Compliance: o Oversee safety procedures on board, including conducting drills (fire, man-overboard, abandon ship, etc.). o Maintain and monitor life-saving and fire-fighting equipment (LSA/FFA) to ensure full operational readiness. o Ensure compliance with all International Maritime Organization (IMO) regulations, including SOLAS, MARPOL, and STCW standards. • Cargo and Deck Operations: o Supervise deck operations including mooring, anchoring, and cargo handling (if applicable to the vessel). o Assist with maintaining ship’s stability during loading/unloading operations. o Ensure proper upkeep and maintenance of deck equipment. • Administrative Duties: o Assist with compiling and maintaining necessary shipboard documentation. o Maintain and update vessel logbooks and other documentation as required by the flag state and company. o Participate in audits and inspections related to vessel safety and compliance. • Watchkeeping: o Maintain effective communication with the Chief Officer and the bridge team during all watchkeeping duties. o Report all incidents and irregularities that occur during the watch, ensuring timely and accurate documentation. • Crew Management: o Assist in supervising deck crew, providing leadership and support to ensure duties are carried out safely and efficiently. o Participate in crew training initiatives, especially in safety and emergency protocols. • Environmental and Security Responsibilities: o Ensure that all environmental protocols are followed on board, particularly in waste disposal and fuel management. o Assist in the implementation of the Ship Security Plan (SSP), ensuring that security procedures are understood and adhered to by the crew. Qualifications & Skills: Certification: o In accordance with the Training matrix. •Experience: o Previous experience as a 2nd Officer or OOW on similar types of vessels. o Experience with offshore support vessels or tugs is preferred. •Skills: o Proficient in modern navigational systems (ECDIS, Radar, AIS, GPS, etc.). o Strong leadership and communication skills. o Ability to work effectively in a team and under pressure. o Proficient in maritime safety protocols and procedures. •Other Requirements: o Fluent in English (spoken and written). o Physically fit for duties, with the ability to work in offshore conditions. Working Conditions: • Rotational shifts and offshore work conditions. • Regular shifts with varying hours depending on operational needs. • Long periods at sea, with potential extended time
